The Problem with Citrus College Parking
From my own experience, the Citrus College parking rules needs a little bit of an upgrade. The rules of to follow are to have a parking pass and park nose-in. These are pretty simple rules, but there are some things that need to change.
If you don’t pay for a day pass or parking permit you’ll get a ticket for $30 and from my experience, being a student that is also working part-time, it’s a little difficult to try to pay this. You only get a certain time period to pay that $30 and if you don’t pay it within that time, the fine will go up to around $75 and so on, so forth. That becomes a stressful thing for a college student working part-time to worry about. It becomes a nuisance to worry about while you’re also trying to provide for yourself.
So now I need to figure out how I’m going to go about paying this extra charge while also being able to pay for school supplies, food, and the necessities. I see other people struggle with the same issue when there’s a game or a show at the Haugh with parking. Not only students, but parents, family members, and friends don’t know that you need to pay $5 for a day pass.
Citrus College should designate a section for family members or friends that are coming to attend an event during school hours because sometimes those people that may not have the ability to pay for these tickets that are issues. It becomes another bill that people worry about because if they are trying to make ends meet, you see a ticket that is $30 and you’ll feel down on your luck. It may not be a lot but it can add up because you weren’t expecting it.
I, myself, have witnessed this first-hand. paid for a day pass while I had class that. After class, I was walking to my car and an officer was ready to give me a ticket without checking my license plate. That is not what the system should do. Students should not be paying for parking. We are here to come learn and we are investing our time and effort into our education. The majority of students are working a part-time job and going to school or some don’t have jobs.
There needs to be change in the grand scheme of things.
